During the rehearsal for Inhibition, a jazz concert at the Brava Theater, saxophonist Bobby Strickland convinced joti to perform his own music. With the encouragement of his grandma, joti started singing in a small town church in West Virginia at the ripe age of four. Soon after he learned piano and would be seen dancing with his mother and d.j./drummer uncle at Haywood's night club. joti's unique abilities were dramatically influenced by his extensive childhood exposure to all kinds of music: Gospel, Jazz, Classical, World, Motown, Country, 80's Rock, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Blues.

At the age of 17, joti moved to New York City to study pedagogy and literature of music, voice, piano, acting, and dance at American Musical and Dramatic Academy, STEPS, Broadway Dance Center, and Greenville College. As an honor student and winner of the NAACP and Danny Talent Scholarship, joti continued to refine his craft as a soloist, choir director, and recording artist.

He's performed at the Mill Valley Film Festival, St. Louis Symphony Hall, The Sydney Opera House, Fox Studios Australia, Carnegie Hall, and with Taunte Tillie's Jazz Band in Denmark. Joti toured with Cornerstone and Red Drum Productions as well as performed in regional theaters nationally including Seaside Music Theater, Theater Works, St Louis Repertory, San Jose Stage Co., and Woodminster Amphitheater.
